On 15 November, Grand Cayman welcomed its first new resort in more than a decade when Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa officially opened. This year will see the completion of the second part of the project, The Residences at Seafire.
With the goal of creating a design-driven property that would offer guests a unique Cayman Islands experience, the Dart group engaged a world-class design team and chose a hotel brand that is known as much for its unique decor as for its excellent customer service.
The vision started with a building design by SB architects, the name in luxury resort-residential living. When combined with cinematically inspired interiors by Powerstrip Studio, Kimpton Seafire's resort's overall design is playful-yet-sophisticated, incorporating local and regional design and artistic elements showcasing Grand Cayman's personality to give guests a distinct sense of place. Kimpton Seafire defines a modern Caribbean aesthetic that sets the tone for future development on Grand Cayman.
For The Residences at Seafire, a 10-storey residential tower adjacent to the resort, Dart Real Estate makes a similar style statement with signature interior design by Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Best known as one of Bravo TV's "Million Dollar Decorators", Bullard's projects include interiors of the Four Seasons Residences, Los Angeles and the homes of Tommy Hilfiger, Sharon Osbourne and the Kardashians.
Decorated as one of the world's top interior designers by Architectural Digest, Bullard was the natural choice to bring high-design appeal to a destination known for its casually luxurious vibe.
"The Cayman Islands is such a design-driven destination with an incredible flavour for modern luxury," said Bullard. "I was inspired by the beautiful colours, history and craftsmanship of the islands to create an upscale haven at The Residences at Seafire."
Drawing his inspiration from the natural surroundings and vibrant colours found throughout the island as well as local crafts, Bullard showcases his vision for the contemporary Caribbean dream home with signature spaces throughout the Residences including the residential lobby, the rooftop lounge known as The Nest, and a selection of model residences.
The Residential Lobby
First impressions are everything - and the residential lobby makes a grand one. Showcasing stone walls in shades of blues and yellows, a mirrored entryway and large rope chandeliers that harken back to the island's first industry, the lobby makes a dramatic style statement. However, style isn't the only consideration in Bullard's design. The essence of "flip-flop chic," the lobby marries luxe design with Caribbean comfort. Statement furniture exists in harmony with comfortable sofas upholstered in buttery soft leather creating the perfect space for lounging.
Ten floors up sits The Nest, an exclusive owners' terrace that promises to be the most coveted 3,500 square feet on Grand Cayman, offering expansive views of Seven Mile Beach. Deriving its name from its signature basket-weave bar, The Nest is the ultimate private club featuring lounging pits and cocktail areas, all done in Bullard's distinctive eclectic style. Elegant outdoor sofas and luxurious cabanas complement the lush vegetation and stunning vistas. An outdoor kitchen and private chef services from the adjacent Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa allow for effortless entertaining.
With signature design by Bullard, The Residences join the ranks of a number of luxury branded residential properties including recent projects by Armani, Versace and Bulgari, placing Cayman in the same conversation as such high-design-driven destinations as Miami, Los Angeles and New York.
