While living at The Residences at Seafire, access to Grand Cayman’s crystal clear waters is closer than ever. Living on Seven Mile Beach makes snorkelling part of your everyday routine, paddleboarding an easy workout and taking a boat out a breeze.
Boating and fishing have been a significant part of history in the Cayman Islands, and still play a major role in the Caymanian lifestyle today. The most popular fishing vessel that was used for offshore fishing in the early 1900s is known as the ‘catboat’, which gets its name from the way in which the mast and sails are arranged. The next-door Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa has a touch of this history on display: visit the library at the five-star hotel and you will find a traditional Cayman catboat built by Kem Jackson suspended from the ceiling. In honour of this history, The Residences at Seafire is proud to sponsor Cayman Billfish Rundown, an international fishing tournament taking place May 14-17, 2019, at Camana Bay and in Cayman’s waters.
From deep-sea fishing to shore fishing, annual fishing tournaments have become extremely popular in the Cayman Islands, and in further celebration of this culture, Cayman Billfish Rundown launches next Tuesday for its first year. One of the newest competitions to enter the international fishing tournament scene, it also offers one of the largest guaranteed payouts of prize money in the Caribbean region’s fishing circuit, with a total pot prize of US$520,000. The tournament will end with another cultural experience: carnival. CayMas Carnival, which takes place May 17-20, 2019, is a street parade full of revellers showcasing their vibrant, colourful costumes, starting from the island’s capital of George Town, and ending at Public Beach on the world-famous Seven Mile Beach.
Many think diving is the main attraction in Cayman, but living at Seafire also means beachfront boating/fishing is just a few minutes from your doorstep. Living in Cayman also means being a part of a very diverse social calendar of local happenings and international events such as the KAABOO Festival, Cayman Cookout and now, the Cayman Billfish Rundown tournament.
