The first quarter of the year is often the busiest and most stressful here on Grand Cayman, but how often do we actually invest in ourselves during this period?

Most of us think of massage as a luxurious treat, but it should be more of a necessity. Not only does massage leave you feeling relaxed and less stressed, but it also actually will help improve your job performance, too. Studies have shown that having regular massages increases your alertness and concentration. Massaging and loosening the muscles in your back will also help to rectify bad posture from sitting at your desk for eight hours a day.

Skin care

This is also the time of year you may notice a difference in your skin. The drier, cooler weather, combined with over-indulging over the festive season and constant exposure to air conditioning in the home, office and car, all have a major impact to how your skin looks and feels.

Facials are usually recommended at least four times a year to remove unwanted dead skin cells, leaving the skin healthier, hydrated and more youthful.

Sleep

When we are working so hard, a good night's sleep is vital. Lack of sleep has a huge impact on our lives and cognitive ability. For your body to function properly you need a minimum of seven hours of sleep every night. Even minimal sleep loss can take a toll on your mood, energy, mental sharpness and ability to handle stress.

Sleep deprivation can also cause premature skin aging. Your skin makes new collagen when you sleep and more collagen means your skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle.

Getting only five hours a night of sleep can lead to twice as many fine lines on your skin as sleeping seven hours would.
